Blink Batch Payments are a new feature (currently in Beta) that allows you to effortlessly distribute funds to multiple users simultaneously, eliminating the need to send individual payments. This feature is available on the Blink open-source dashboard.
Prerequisites: Before you begin, you must have a Blink wallet, as the Blink dashboard is only accessible to Blink wallet users.
Blink Batch Payment Step-by-Step Guide
For clarity, follow the same steps I used to distribute sats rewards to our Cohort 4 graduates. I recommend reading through the guide first, then watching the video titled ‘How to Use Blink Wallet for Batch Bitcoin Payments’ for hands-on support. Take it step by step for best results.
Step 1. Access Your Blink Dashboard:
- First, log in to your Blink dashboard and sign in.
- Having a Blink dashboard is essentially accessing your Blink API, which allows you to perform various actions, including batch payments.
Step 2. Navigate to Batch Payments:
- Once logged in, go to the “Batch Payments” section, which is typically found in the left menu from the home page.
Step 3. Prepare Your CSV File:
- Batch Payments require a .csv (Comma-Separated Values) file containing the payment details. A CSV file is a common format for tabular data, similar to spreadsheets.
- You can create this file using spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc, and then save or export it in the .csv format.
- The CSV file needs to contain the following specific information in the correct format:
- Username: The Blink username of each recipient.
- Amount: The quantity of Bitcoin (SATS) or USD you wish to send to each user.
- Currency: Specify whether the amount is in SATS or USD.
- Wallet (optional): Indicate which wallet the payment should be sent from: your Bitcoin account (BTC) or your stablecoin account (USD).
- Memo (optional): A short note or personalized message for the recipient. This can help recipients understand where the payment is coming from.
Blink includes a template link in the Batch Payment section of your dashboard. Just sign in to access it, a quick heads-up!
- Upload Your CSV File:
- After preparing and saving your CSV file, you will need to upload it to the Blink dashboard on the batch payment section.
- Ensure Sufficient Balance:
- Before confirming the payments, make sure you have sufficient balance in the specified wallet (BTC or USD) to cover the total amount of all payments.
- If your balance is insufficient, you will need to transfer funds to your Blink wallet before proceeding. For example, you can send SATS to your Blink username or address.
- Before confirming the payments, make sure you have sufficient balance in the specified wallet (BTC or USD) to cover the total amount of all payments.
- Review and Confirm Payments:
- Once the CSV file is uploaded, the system will process it and show you details like the total payable amount.
- You will see a list of recipients and the amounts to be sent to them.
- After reviewing everything, click “Confirm” to initiate the batch payment. Payments for individuals might fail if there’s an issue (e.g., trying to send to yourself), but other transactions should still go through.
- Once the CSV file is uploaded, the system will process it and show you details like the total payable amount.
Key Benefits and Use Cases
Blink Batch Payments simplify sending funds to multiple recipients. This feature is particularly useful for:
- Payroll: Distributing salaries or rewards in Bitcoin, significantly reducing time and effort compared to individual transactions. A good example is the recent Bitcoin Ekasi Funds Distribution to over 771 countries in Africa.
- Multiple Payments: Streamline tasks like paying invoices or distributing rewards. For example, Bitcoin Africa Story used Blink’s Batch Payment to send SATs to students across Ghana, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, and Nigeria—no manual address entry required.
- Fast Distribution: Blink Wallet itself has used it to distribute SATS to over 70 users in seconds.
This solution is designed for efficiency and convenience, enabling you to send funds across multiple countries from home. Batch Payments are still in beta, so your feedback is welcome, reach out via the support channel.
